Data Services

All the four types of connections can have data services at base tariff rate

@ 10ps/100KB during peak hours and

5ps/100KB at off peak hours from 23 Hrs to 7Hrs.

Based of the type of connection there are STVs for data as rate cutters and limited usages details can be referred below.

There are basically two types of Data services in CDMA services ie.. CDMA2001xRTT called as NIC with maximum speed of 153kbps this is the speed possible by NIC and Fixed CDMA customers [practically 70kbps to 120 kbps depending on the traffic and signal strength].

For the customers who have taken connection as FWT or NIC will get the data STVs of NICs only. The customers created as NIC can have prepaid rental plan also.

In rental NIC plan BSNL has unlimited data usage @ Rs 350 per month as rental amount. Rental plans for prepaid are not advisable as it has the following disadvantages.

  1. Rental amount will be cut from your balance every month on a fixed date even if you are not using.
  2. On rent deduction date if your balance is not enough it will go to negative and the next rent cycle will be exactly  after 30 days.
  3. If your account has gone negative and you are topping up the balance to a positive figure after 20 days of going to negative then you will get only 10 days of usage after than again rent will be deducted.
  4. If your balance is 0 or negative on the rent day then rent amount will not be deducted and free usage will not be added to your account till the next rent date.

Similarly the customers who have taken connection as RUIM or EVDO will get the data STVs of EVDO only. The customers created as EVDO can have prepaid rental plan also.

EVDO prepaid Rental plans are

  1. 500MB @ Rs 150 per month.
  2. 1GB @ Rs 250 per month.
  3. 2.5GB @ Rs 500 per month.
  4. Unlimited @ Rs 750 per month.

EVDO rental plans are also not recommended for the above reasons same as NIC rental plans.

Online Self Support

BSNL has provided a unique feature for  CDMA prepaid customer. Customer can manage his prepaid account online know the balance, change plan activate STV, Know the usage details, Know the current offers, Latest EVDO card drivers (Available in help menu)  etc.. through the portal http://genext.bsnl.co.in/cdmaprepaid/

For using this website you have to register to the website using a valid Email ID. Once registered the Email ID will be validated by sending mail to your mail.

When registration is over your CDMA number should be attached through the settings menu. For this you require the PIN number of your prepaid number. This PIN number will be send to you as SMS when activating the number with the welcome SMS.

If you do not have that SMS don’t worry in the website there is a option to send the PIN once more. Sill you have not received the SMS means you have to contact the nearest BSNL customer service center who will verify your information and give the PIN number. With this PIN you will be able to register the number. Once you have attached all the menus are self explanatory. You can even add multiple number to the same account.

When you login to the accunt you can see the status of your attached numbers.. if it is active then only you can use those numbers online. Suppose you have changed your PIN number through the IVRS 123 then next time you login you will have to validate the PIN once more.

To know the balance of the prepaid number there are multiple ways.

You can call 123 from the number.

You can call 18004259123 from any number

You can send SMS to 53733 as AMT.

You can activate STVs by deducting cost of STVs from current balance by two methods.

  1. Send SMS to 53733 in format STV mrp_of _stv.
  2. Though the customer self support portal.

In both cases service tax will not be included in the deducted mrp value ie.. actual value deducted will be less than MRP value.

Tips:

Most of the time BSNL CDMA topups will have some offers like full talk time or additional talk time. During this time if you topup and convert it to STV you will be charged less than the actual value.

If you are in EVDO rental package and package status is showing as rent could not be reduced then make your balance positive or above the rent value change the plan to EVDO general and then back to the required plan. If this is not done when package status is “could not reduce rent” you will not be getting your free usage but will be charged @ additional usage charges.

Kindly avoid rental packages and go for STV. STV cost is same as the rental cost. Ie Rental amount will be deducted from your account which you have topped up and for this topup amount you have already paid service tax additional. So the rent amount + service tax will be equal to cost of STV. When topup offers are there topup the required amount and use SMS or web to activate STV then you will get the advantage of the offer.

In BSNL CDMA prepaid there are only recharge and topup concept when recharge is done.

Topup are the one which adds money to your base account. And recharges are done for extending the validity of your basic account (Normally Recharge Rs 20) or to recharge STVs.

The recharge vouchers which are available for the number will be displayed when the number is queried. Here it is clearly  at the top of each list whether the denomination is topup or recharge.
